The ECCSL Met with the Spice Board to Discuss about the Export Promotion of Sri Lankan Products

The European Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka met with the State Minister of Development of Minor Crops including Sugarcane, Maize, Cashew, Pepper, Cinnamon, Clove, Betel related Industries and Export Promotion, Hon. Minister Kapila Athukorala and the recently established Spice Board of Sri Lanka to discuss the promotion of Sri Lankan products and scaling up of local exporters to European markets. It was also discussed how Sri Lankan exporters can apply for the necessary certification especially in organic agriculture at a reasonable price.

The Spice Board mentioned that they plan to establish a laboratory facility for certification purposes. Through this, they expect to be able to facilitate the approval and certification processes and thereby increase the number of agricultural products exported out of Sri Lanka while maintaining the quality of the products. The ECCSL and the Spice Board will meet again soon to discuss ongoing cooperation in supporting potential organic producers who are looking to establish exports to Europe.
